Obstacles, Challenges and How to Overcome Them

I’m a real believer in the universe, things happening for a reason just as the should in the time that is meant to be.  That’s why when this week threw some challenges my way it was not surprising at all and in fact, I rode the waves and managed without the usual stress that old Jacara would have endured. New Wayapa Jacara dealt with it like a boss.  This week’s theme for our surge fam bam is Challenges, obstacles, setbacks and how to over come them.  For those of you who are like, Surge? what is this Surge here is a quick over view.

Our Surge program delivers 1 weekly group fitness sessions, weekly coaching via our online community, materials to help you work shop each weekly theme and a program to do outside of our fact to face fitness sessions in partnership with First People’s Health and Wellbeing in Thomastown Vic.

Ok we are now all caught up.  So, when hump day rolled in with its chaos this did not surprise me and it did disrupt me in a physical way as in my schedule was disrupted however for lack of a better phrase, my inner peace was not.  We have all seen the quote flow through our social media feeds 1000 times ‘ we can’t control what happens to us but we can control how we respond’ or some version of this, my favourite version of this is actually ‘ you can’t control the waves but you can learn to surf’, any way I digress,   it could not be more truer then when we apply this to our behaviours and motivations around fitness and health.

What is the number 1 thing that I see that disrupts people or even the number one cause of why people ‘fall off the band wagon’ during the week when they are trying to establish a new fitness and health regime for life?  Its mindset and discipline.  People haven’t addressed the core reasons why they sabotage their efforts or properly established the reasons why they need to move frequently and eat well.  So when that minor inconvenience rolls around that day/week/month we allow it to derail our best intentions and efforts. ‘I forgot my gear’ ‘ I’m so tired’ ‘ I have to work late’  ‘ I don’t have time’ wave after wave after wave crashing down around us leaving us questioning why can’t I do this?.  Sound familiar ? then boom there goes another month where you haven’t used that gym membership because we just haven’t set our core reasons for creating the mindset where despite the excuses we have the ability to get it done.

People get on the hamster wheel of fitness with motivation ( never lasts long) and a desire to succeed in hitting an aesthetics based goal  ‘ fit into a dress for that wedding ‘  ‘ look good in my school reunion photos’ ( very superficial again doesn’t last long) and the latest fitness or diet fad ready to go on Monday morning and barely last to the same Friday.  You have guessed it fam there is no click bait easy fixes in this blog, this is about making real change, getting real with your selves and establishing healthy life styles and ways of living by addressing the real issues.

You need to shift your inner goal posts and lean into the discomfort that is being buried in denial so that you can improve your quality of life.  You don’t need to fit into that dress, you need to be a healthy weight to live a healthy active life for you (and /or your kids/significant other/family) and maybe a happy by product will be that dress.

Where do you start? You start with, are you happy with your health? are you happy with your life, can you run to catch the bus without feeling like you’ve just run a marathon? could it be better? Who else relies on you to be healthy? then you move to, what’s stopping you ? fear ? energy? Time? All of these things can be easily overcome if you start working on yourself and your mind right now.  then what is my plan ? and do I need support ?

I mention the old Jacara before, Currently I am 31 and let me tell you , I classify my self as a ‘Morning work out person’ and some days its hard AF.  It took ages to chip away and set my non negotiable s.  I have tried most quick fix diets and I am currently not on a diet, I don’t weigh myself and I am the happiest and healthiest I have ever been because I am rock solid around the reasons why I need to get out of bed in the morning.  Featuring in the top 5 is my Mental Health and my kids.  That’s because I have put in the time and I wanted to tell you all that it can be done.  You just need to invest in you.
